3. Advantage of SMPP : Using the SMPP protocol instead of sending messages using a GSM modem has the following advantages:
1)
The SMPP protocol is TCP/IP based, GSM hardware is not required;
2)
Users can send SMS to a simple shortcode, this is not possible when sending to a GSM phone;
3)
High throughput ( up to 200 msgs/second);
4)
Alphanumeric sender address can be assigned.
4. SMPP PDU's ?
The TCP packets between the ESME and the SMSC are called PDU's (Protocol Data Units). The following types of PDU's are used SMPP connections: (Protocol Data Units),

Session Management PDUs
-Connecting, disconnection and connection keep alive.
•
Message Submission PDUs
-Submitting messages to a mobile phone.
•
Message Delivery PDUs
-Delivery of messages to the SMPP client.

-Message query, cancel and replacement.
